San Miniato al Monte
Description

In this spot the first martyr of Florence, Miniato, was buried somewhere in the 3rd century C.E. and the current monastery was build in the year 1018. The view over the city is spectacular and the church interior is calm, dark, fresh, quiet and -one can feel it - ancient!
We will see the typical tuscan romanesque architecture, the medieval frescoes, the mosaics and some stunning renaissance structures that complete the decoration of the church.

Behind the church there is also a monumental cemetery which offers beautiful examples of art of the 19th and 20th century.

Duration

About 1 h.

Cost

50€  per person

Additional Info

At 18.30 every weekday the monks sing gregorian chants in the crypt of the church and I strongly suggest to witness it as it is a quite mystical experience. It's very special to attend and doesn't last very long. I suggest we do our tour just before, so you can stay and see it if you so wish to.
