Palazzo Vecchio
Description

First build for the merchant governors of Florence (called Priori), this Medieval castle has been used as seat of power throughout time: under the Medicis, under the Kingdom of Italy (as seat of Parliament) and today under the city of Florence. The splendour of the interior decorations is mostly thanks to Cosimo the First of the Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany and his need of celebrating his household with the help of Giorgio Vasari and his school. We will see works by Giambologna, Michelangelo, DonatelloVerrocchio, Bronzino and the overall magnificence of a Medieval castle turned into a Renaissance palace.

Duration

About 1 h 30.

For those who want to prolong the visit we can climb the tower and the battlements (closed if rainy days and only over 6 year old kids) with an additional ticket.
